Manchester United have now started to act in the transfer market and have made a late bid for Ander Herrera, who is currently plying his trade at La Liga side Atletico Bilbao.
Club president Josu Urrutia has confirmed that United made an offer for the midfielder late last night. The player’s release clause is 36 million euros, but United have offered only 30 million euros. Bilbao have no intention to sell the player at this value and Urrutia has made that very clear.
“We received the offer last night and we have already said that we do not negotiate for our players,” Urrutia mentioned on Bilbao’s official Twitter feed. “For us Athletic is a unique club. The players are required to feel the same way.”
United have tried hard to bring one big name midfielder to Old Trafford but without any success. Their efforts to sign Fabregas faltered and their other target Thiago moved to the reigning German champions Bayern Munich to play under former boss Pep Guardiola.
If United successfully brings the 24 year old Herrera to the Premier League, he will join a host of other Spanish stars who have opted for the Premier League this season. Manchester City have already signed Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo from the La Liga and so has Spurs with their signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia.

While United toil hard to bring in a substantial midfielder to the team, one of their current midfielder has no intentions to leave the club in a hurry. Shinji Kagawa’s agent has stated that potential bidders will have to be disappointed as his client will stay at United and try to break into the first team.
“Shinji will currently not be leaving Manchester United. He wants to fight for his place,” agent Thomas Kroth said. “Because of the Confederations Cup, he did not have a full pre-season and therefore still has a training deficit. That’s why he, until now, has won hardly any playing time.”
If United can successfully utilise this man, may be they would not have to look at any other players at all.
