Manchester United Transfers: 2 Reasons Why Van Gaal Should Not Sign This Dutch Midfield Enforcer

Louis Van Gaal stated in a recent press conference that he needs to sign a midfielder, a top priority is a playmaker or a tempo player who can control the game for Manchester United. People might be scoffing at the fact that they have someone like that in Juan Mata but that is a decision which Van Gaal has taken and although he is playing Wayne Rooney out from his position, he is getting the results for the club as they sit in third in the Premier League and are in with a shout of winning the FA Cup.

A whole host of players have been linked with a move to Manchester United but one link has not died down since the time Van Gaal picked up the reigns at Old Trafford, which is for a Dutch player and we are not talking about Kevin Strootman. The player we are talking about is Nigel De Jong, the karate kid from the 2010 World Cup when he almost kicked a hole in Xabi Alonso’s chest. He may be a great player but Manchester United should stay clear of the Dutch player and here are 3 reasons why.

Old age retirement home?

Nigel De Jong is playing at AC Milan which almost everyone knows is a retirement home for most players who are on the wrong side of their career, in terms of age. Milan is currently the perfect home for Nigel as for some reason Milan are able to get the best out of players who might be considered as a bit weary in the legs.

De Jong might prefer a move to the glitz and glamour of the Premier League but he should not be signed as he would do no better than his time at AC Milan which has not been the greatest so far.

No legs for the Premier League

To play in the Premier League, you have to not only be strong but you need to have a bit of pace about you. Van Persie and Falcao are understanding just how important pace is in the Premier League and they have struggled to find their best form, the same can be said about the Dutch midfielder.

De Jong is 30 years old and shifting from the comparably slower pace at Italy might just be a bit too much for a player who would be coming to the Premier League where almost all games go at 100 miles an hour every second.
