Manchester United: Top Four Nemanja Vidic Replacements To Look Into

Share

Manchester United’s veteran defender Nemanja Vidic’s contract ends in the summer has confirmed that he is ready to leave Old Trafford once and for all and while manager David Moyes had spoken to him regarding an extension and possibility to stay at the red half of Manchester, Vidic decided it was time to move on.

“I have decided that I will move on at the end of this season,” said Vidic, in a statement released by United. I want to challenge myself again and try to make the best of myself in the coming years. I’m not considering staying in England as the only club I ever wanted to play for here is Manchester United and I was lucky enough to be part of this club for so many years. I’ve got a few options to move on and I will choose the right one for me and for my family.”

David Moyes thus has a huge job on his hands on to find a suitable replacement for the Serbian to cover the void at the back. As the Scot looks for the possible replacements, we here at Soccersouls provide our readers four options for the Red Devils.

Andrea Ranocchia:

An integral part of the Inter Milan squad who look rejuvenated under new manager Walter Mazzari, Ranocchia remains perhaps a long term solution for Vidic’s boots. The Italian International is sure to be in the thirty man squad for his country in Brazil for the World Cup and despite his tender age of 25 (quite young for a defender), he has a very calm head. The Inter man is a no nonsense defender, brilliant in the air and is technically astute. Ranocchia’s reluctance to extend his contract in Italy might mean United could cash in but it remains to be seen if Inter do sell one of their hottest young prospects.

Dante:

If major tabloids are to be believed, United were in for the Bayern Munich man in the January transfer window and the defender has himself confirmed that in the past. The Brazilian brings years of experience thanks to his age and will come in cheap if Moyes goes for him. A brilliant reader of the game with a no nonsense attitude and the willingness to run the extra mile along with being immaculate in the air too is perhaps the extra zip the Red Devils need at their back.

Ezequiel Garay:

United have been linked with a move for Garay for the last couple of years but have never been able to complete a deal for the Argentine international. The 27-year-old failed to make the grade at Real Madrid but has raised the bar and proved a very capable defender since joining Portuguese outfit Benfica. Garay has an immaculate presence at the back and is rock solid in the heart of defence. His work rate is phenomenal too, something which United have been missing currently in their squad.

Eliaquim Mangala:

Mangala is currently plying his trade at Portuguese side Porto and the highly rated twenty two year old could move to the riches of the Premier League if Porto are offered the cash. The Frenchman is brilliant at the back with dazzling dynamism on the ball and has the eye for a pass too. At 6’2 he is dominating at the heart of the defence, an imposing presence during defending or attacking set pieces and also the understanding when to throw himself into a tackle and when to hold back and clear the danger away. His market value might just sway some clubs away but David Moyes will have the cash to splash in the coming summer.
