Manchester United’s summer signing Marouane Fellaini has revealed that Arsene Wenger showed interest in signing him and that he snubbed the North London club in favour of the Red Devils.
Ever since the former Everton manager David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson at the United helm, the Merseyside duo Fellaini and Baines were rumored to move to United. However, Moyes only managed to land the Belgian midfielder on the final day of the transfer window for a £27.5 million deal.
“I don’t want to tell you everything what happened during the transfer,” he said to beIN Sport. “This was done at the last minute.
“In a transfer window, there is always a list of players, you never know if it’s true or not. But for me, I knew [Moyes] was interested in me.
“Chelsea? No comment. Arsenal? It’s true, they were interested, but Manchester United convinced me to sign for them.” (Goal.com)
Fellaini who was instrumental at Everton’s midfield engine has since then failed to replicate his potential’s at the Old Trafford and was pushed to the bench during United’s home match against Stoke last weekend.
Arsenal meanwhile signed Real Madrid and German superstar Mesut Ozil for a record £42.5 million and have had a flying start to the season. The Gunners currently stand at the top of the table two points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool
