Man United should have signed this fearsome 20-goal Brazilian to lead the line in wake of Lukau’s exit – Agreed?

Why Manchester United should have signed Pedro

Manchester United haven’t had their finishing boots on since the season started. Despite creating enough to win games, they’ve put their eggs in one basket – one that involves Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial – after selling Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer.

One flaw in their transfer policy is that they haven’t signed a plan B. Of course, there are many teams who refuse to give up on their principles like Manchester City and Liverpool but it’s still helpful to have a second option.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly fancied neither Marouane Fellaini nor Romelu Lukaku but they could’ve still signed a target-man with technical qualities. One player they were linked was former Fluminense striker, Pedro, who has now signed for Fiorentina.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has made 58 appearances as a professional footballer and has chipped in with 20 goals and 3 assists in all competitions in Brazil. The striker is very good on the ball like most Brazilians and has a massive frame of 1.85m. In fact, his profile is quite similar to Diego Costa.

He’s very good in the air and matches that with skill. He’s not the quickest, however, why is why United might’ve been averse to signing him.

After all, they have one of the paciest squads in the league and play in a system that presses from the front and looks to attack from those turnovers of possession.

However, so far this campaign, they’ve found it difficult to break teams that play with a low block and a player with Pedro’s attributes is tailor-made to break such defences down.

He would have also been a great option off the bench to unsettle a defence and could’ve laid balls to someone like Rashford, who loves to run off the channels and make runs in behind the defence.

United also have the likes of Daniel James, Ashley Young, Diogo Dalot and Paul Pogba, who are capable of putting good crosses into the box when required, which would have provided the perfect service for Pedro’s attributes.

He’d have also fit in with the young profile that United are looking at. The Red Devils’ attack would have strengthened considerably had they tried harder to sign Pedro.
