Manchester United suffered their first loss of the season in dramatic fashion against Crystal Palace, as Patrick van Aanholt scored the winner in the dying minutes of the game to give the Red Devils a lot to ponder over in the coming week.
There will be a serious question mark on their ability to open up a defence. They’ve enjoyed possession in the last two games and taken a lot of shots but very few were on target.
Of course, the two missed penalties would’ve made a massive difference but goals from open play remains a real problem, as they’re still very much a counter-attacking unit. One player they were linked with during the summer was Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder Isco.
The Spanish playmaker is one of the best players in tight spaces and excels in a free role, where he could pop into pockets of space where he can either shoot on sight or create a chance for his teammates.
Isco’s the kind of player who will attract the opposition players and will help take the creative burden from Paul Pogba, who’s been playing in a double pivot with the option to move forward when the opportunity arises.
Isco is a very different player as he’s fantastic at retaining possession and can resist pressure, which is a fantastic skillset to have in order to tire the opposition over the course of 90 minutes.
Last season, the Spaniard did not play much for Real Madrid and even in seasons prior, his name on the first-sheet wasn’t always a certainty.
Where he’s stood out the most is the national team and in cup competitions for Madrid as these are more tactical games than the league, where repetition and consistency is the most important factor.
Isco has struggled with consistency ever since his move to Madrid but he’s been part of a side that’s won a lot of silverware and would bring some experience to a very young side.
