Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw versus Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.
What is clear is that this team is a lot more energetic than the team under Jose Mourinho and it has a lot of pace about it. One player who would’ve helped them is Mexican international Hirving Lozano, who was linked with United in the summer after having a fantastic couple of seasons in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.
Lozano would immediately take up that right-wing spot, which has been a problem position for the Red Devils for a long time now. He would have fitted in perfectly with this new-look Manchester United – a team that’s looking to hit teams on the break and implement a pressing system.
Lozano scored 21 goals in all competitions and also registered 12 assists last season, which is a phenomenal tally and those assists numbers would have definitely helped as United lack some creativity.
Paul Pogba has taken most of the creative burden and Marcus Rashford showed a lot of improvement last season but that might not be enough.
In the game against Chelsea, Andreas Pereira showed his creativity on the right-wing with the second goal as he’s a good crosser of the ball but that would mean sacrificing other aspects of the team.
Lozano would have been able to provide the energy, the creativity and the goals required and he would have also provided flexibility, as he can play in any of the forward positions.
There might’ve been doubts about Lozano because of the league he plays in but he’s shown how capable he is on the big stage with the World Cup and the Champions League.
At 24, he is heading into his prime, which would fit in with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s vision for the club. United might regret missing out on the Mexican as he could’ve made all the difference.
