Back in November 2018, ESPN claimed Manchester United were monitoring Gremio forward Everton Soares ahead of a potential transfer in the January transfer window. However, a move didn’t materialise and the 23-year-old stayed with Gremio.
Everton Soares has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs for a few months now but interest is set to rise steeply once the Copa America comes to an end. He has been by far Brazil’s most exciting performer, scoring two fantastic goals in three games.
Considering his strong season with Gremio and dazzling performances for Brazil in the Copa America so far, Manchester United would do well by reigniting their interest in Everton.
This would be a superb signing for the Red Devils if they could pull it off, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer perhaps in need of one or two upgrades to his attack next season. Having already signed Daniel James from Swansea City, United also wrapped up the deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
With pre-season beginning soon, Solskjaer must be hoping a few of his targets can be signed before the squad leaves for their tour. Apart from bringing in new faces, the United manager also has to sort out the futures of some of his players, especially Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba’s.
Lukaku lost his place as United’s first choice striker to Marcus Rashford when Solskjaer took replaced Jose Mourinho at the club last December. The Belgian wants to leave the club and join Inter Milan, while Pogba has attracted interest from Juventus and Real Madrid.
Solskjaer must seek to replace Lukaku, as Rashford and Martial aren’t consistent enough to score regularly for the Red Devils. Alexis Sanchez remains a shadow of his former self and if Pogba leaves the club this summer, United’s midfield would lose its creativity and goals that the Frenchman provided last season.
Thus, Solskjaer’s priority must be to keep hold of Pogba, whilst granting Lukaku’s wish of joining Inter and replacing him with Everton Soares.
Everton is one of the most exciting young talents in South America right now. The 23-year-old, who can play on the left or through the middle, is currently making waves in the ongoing Copa America. A versatile and skilful forward, the Brazilian has become much more effective and productive in the final third in the last 12 months.

If Manchester United manages to land the 23-year-old, Everton could potentially form a thrilling attacking quartet with the likes of Martial, Rashford and James. Also, there would be an immediate expectation from the Brazilian international to lead the line.
Everton won’t come for cheap in any case, so United have to break the bank to sign him from Gremio and they must do it quickly before other European clubs start circling.
