According to ESPN, Matteo Darmian might finally be heading out of Manchester United. The Italian full-back was brought to the club from Torino in the 2014-15 season under Louis Van Gaal but never settled into the team under the Dutchman or his successors.
The Italian impressed in the 2014 FIFA World Cup for Italy and was touted as one of the best up and coming full-backs at the time due to his ability with both feet and comfort in playing various defensive roles. He was constantly switched around to play at left-back or right-back.
He made a very impressive start to his United career and looked set to be the man to fill a big void at the back but after a nightmare against Arsenal at the Emirates in his first season at the club, his career was never the same again.
The £60,000-a-week Italian still has his uses. He is very good in one-versus-one battles and is predominantly a defensive full-back. He is also very comfortable on the ball and has been used in the centre-back position very often, usually as a third centre-back who can help bring the ball out from the back.

Darmian hardly plays anymore, not even making the bench on most occasions and it would be in the Red Devils’ best interests to just go ahead with the sale and allow Diogo Dalot and a new signing to compete with one another for a place in the first-team.
