Probably the block buster clash of the season so far after the Manchester derby. United will play hosts to high-flying Arsenal looking to bridge the gap between the two sides. After their breath taking performances against Fulham last weekend, the Red Devils played out a dragging 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad in the midweek Champions League clash.
United will take on Wenger’s side for the first time under new manager Moyes and should certainly be an entertaining match given Arsenal’s poor record at Old Trafford and United’s unpredictable season. However, with a revitalized Rooney and Van Persie spear heading their attack, and their recent run of good form should give Moyes’ men the confidence to come out and play for all the three points.
As far as United’s team news is concerned, Van Persie who was rested during the Champions League should return to the first team to face his former team while youngster Janujaz could also be involved in the super Sunday clash. The only absentee will be striker Danny Welbeck who will miss out due to the ongoing problems with his knee.
Defence:
Except for David De Gea and Evra, United’s defensive line-up is unpredictable. Right back Rafael who missed the Champions League match is a doubt for Arsenal’s game, but if fit, he should take up his customary role on the right hand side. In the heart of United’s defence, Vidic and Ferdinand could team up once again to protect Ramsey and co from scoring while Evra should retain his spot on the left side.
Midfield:
Moyes started Giggs and Fellaini against Sociedad, but expect the duo to be benched this time around. Carrick will play the anchor role in United’s midfield engine alongside Cleverley and Rooney will play just behind Van Persie linking the midfield and the attacking plays, and occasionally dropping back to do the dirty work.
Attackers:
Valencia, who is having a good run of games should occupy the right wing, while Moyes will have to choose between youngster Januzaj and Kagawa to play on the left wing. Elsewhere RVP should spearhead United’s attack.
