Manchester United Player Ratings Against PSV: Smalling and Lingard Shine for the Red Devils

Share

Premier League giants Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by PSV Eindhoven at home in the UEFA Champions League group stage match last night. With this, the Red Devils are in the second spot with 8 points from 5 matches. Their spot in the last 16 is yet to be finalised as the group toppers Wolfsburg are just a point above Manchester United while PSV are in the third spot with 7 points. The final group game has a lot at stake with three teams in chance with progressing to the next round. Let us take a look at how the players performed for the Red Devils last night

David de Gea

The Spaniard had a quiet night as he was never called into any serious action. PSV’s shots that were on target were just routine stuff for De Gea.

Matteo Darmian

The PSV defence had a torrid time courtesy some brilliant crosses from Darmian, who had a good night both in the defence and attack.

Chris Smalling

Chris Smalling is enjoying the form of his life as he had a great game once again. The English defender made a few important interceptions that gave his team a point last night. He got the ball forward on several occasions but didn’t get the backing of his forwards.

Daley Blind

Daley Blind started at the back and was solid in defence against De Jong and also acted as a very deep-lying playmaker from central defence. His range of passing was impressive tonight.

Marcos Rojo

Rojo failed to make an impact on the game going forward and was caught out of position on few occasions.

Morgan Schneiderlin

The Frenchman looked rusty as he struggled to stop PSV’s counter-attacks when they looked to surge forward on the break. His passes were accurate but lacked pace.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

The German engine had a terrible night as he was slow and didn’t use the possession positively enough. He also struggled with his defensive duties too before being substituted before the one hour mark.

Jesse Lingard

The only positive for Manchester in the game. He looked bright and looked to inject a bit of pace into the attack which was sorely lacking for far too long.

Wayne Rooney

Found some good space in the first half and delivered some good crosses into the middle. And when his side needed a goal, he was made to dropped deeper and deeper and ended up in defensive midfield.

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay

A forgettable night against his former side and was substituted before the hour mark.

Anthony Martial

Though he missed a couple of chances in the first half, he linked up very well with Lingard but needed a little more help from other players around him.
