Manchester United Player Ratings Against Liverpool: Dream Debut For 36m Euros Star

Anthony Martial introduced himself to the Stretford End with a superb individual goal as Manchester United produced a clinical effort to beat bitter rivals Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Playing without their talisman Wayne Rooney, United lacked a cutting edge up front in the first half but Louis van Gaal was quick to make the changes and the introduction of Ashley Young’s pace and Anthony Martial upfront tipped the scales in the favor of the Red Devils.

Here’s how the United players fared against a Liverpool side that lacked passion and quality.

David de Gea

David De Gea – 7

United’s distribution was better with the ball at the Spaniard’s feet. Saved from Ings and produced another acrobatic save to deny Origi.

Matteo Darmian – 7

The signing of the season so far. Solid defensively and gave an attacking impetus down the right side.

Chris Smalling – 7

What a season he is having! Stroll in the park for the Englishman.

Daley Blind – 8

A goal line clearance and the opening goal to show for his efforts. Kept Christian Benteke quiet all evening.

Daley Blind

Luke Shaw – 7

Improved his positioning, and excellent going forward as usual. Real superstar in the making.

Michael Carrick – 7.5

His kind of game, his kind of tempo. Kept things ticking along in midfield and helped United take control.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – 7

Nothing spectacular, but the German keeps proving he has still got something about him.

Ander Herrera – 7

Lacked that penetrative final pass that Rooney could have provided, but a real lively player in midfield. Converted the penalty with aplomb.

Ander Herrera

Juan Mata – 7

Put the ball on a plate for Daley Blind to open the scoring.

Memphis Depay – 6

Never looked like outwitting Clyne. Not one of his better games.

Marouane Fellaini – 6.5

Lacked the sharpness of a centre-forward. Wasted a couple of chances with poor touches.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young – 7

Provided energy and creativity down the left flank.

Anthony Martial – 7

Excellent individual goal showcasing his skill and ability.

Morgan Schneiderlin – 6.5

Kept things neat and tidy in the final few minutes.
