Manchester United Player Ratings Against Leicester City – Blind And van Persie Step Up

Share

Manchester United climbed up to third in the Premier League table with a 3-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday. Goals from Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao and an own goal by Wes Morgan helped United exact revenge on a side which triumphed 5-3 over Louis van Gaal’s men earlier this season.

Let’s take a look at how the United players fared against the foxes.

David De Gea – 6

Another quiet afternoon in goal for the Spaniard. Denied Nugent with ease before Marcin Wasilewski gave Leicester a late consolation.

Antonio Valencia – 7

Still has to work a little on his positional sense and crossing, but makes up for it with his attitude and work ethic. A solid performance at right back from the Ecuadorian.

Phil Jones – 6

Fairly assured, except for that odd moment of misjudgment. Still has an error or two in him, but looks increasingly comfortable and confident in a back four.

Marcos Rojo – 7

Rojo isn’t all about brawn, and the Argentine looks like a nice piece of business. Composed on the ball, stood up well to Ulloa, and looks assured and reliable at the back.

Luke Shaw – 7

Didn’t have much to do in a defensive sense, and was ever so willing to provide an option in attack. Link up play with Di Maria was pleasing on the eye.

 Daily Blind – 8.5

Beautiful dinked ball to find Robin van Persie in acres of space in front of goal. Shielded the back four well and controlled things in the middle of the park.

 Wayne Rooney – 7

Had to do a lot of running to find himself in space in a crowded midfield. But midfield is not where he should be playing.

Adnan Januzaj – 7

Took time to ease into the game but was a threat going forward later on. Has the potential to stake a permanent place in the United team.

Angel Di Maria – 7.5

Missed a glorious opportunity to score late on, but his surging run and parried shot allowed Falcao to score his fourth goal of the season from close distance. United need Di Maria at his best for the remainder of the season.

Robin van Persie – 8

The Dutchman admitted he needed to find the net more often and he did no different when Daley Blind’s vision found him in acres of space and the United frontman volleyed home his ninth league goal with effortless ease. A natural finisher like no other!

Radamel Falcao – 7.5

Couldn’t sort his feet out when Van Persie played him in, but showed his predatory instincts when he scrambled home Di Maria’s rebound shot for United’s second.

Substitutes:

Paddy McNair – 6

A few more minutes under the belt for the youngster.

Juan Mata – 6

His shocking performance at Upton Park has ensured Juan Mata has to raise his game to get into this United team. Van Gaal seems to be favoring Januzaj at the moment. Against Leicester, the Spaniard played a defensive, containing role.

James Wilson – 6

Has to keep working hard in training and impress the manager when given the opportunities. A future United first team player without a doubt.
