Why Manchester United Should Move On From Zlatan And Pursue Other Realistic Targets

Share

Premier League giants Manchester United have been looking to sign more attacking options since the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the club as they look to improve their current squad since the departure of Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman did his fair share of mixing and matching, prior to eventually find the right combination, though the former Chelsea boss has his own set of plans for the team at Old Trafford now.

However, in recent times there have been so many speculations linking a host of players with the Red Devils, including Paris Saint-Germain superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is available on a free transfer now.

So, why the obsession with the Swedish international? Is it due to the fact that he has proved himself once again in Ligue 1?? Honestly, if the United management and fans want to take that consideration into top priority to sign him, then they must be joking.

Yes, the league in France is a good one and agreed that Zlatan just broke PSG’s record for most goals in a single season, but does that justify the decision to buy him this summer and not some younger talented striker, who can do a lot more damage.

The first point in this argument would be that the former AC Milan man would only be moving to The Theater of Dreams for a single season for now, as he is already 34 years old and soon to be 35. His agility and pace have now reduced to an extent, though his ball control and finishing are still world-class.

United had problems last season with players who reduced the pace of their counter-attacks under Van Gaal and Mourinho, who has a similar philosophy to his “old friend”, might need someone who could give him that outburst of pace.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are two such players, who are both really young and it would seem highly unlikely that Zlatan will be able to cope up with them. Also, his stamina and potential injury threats could be a problem, as the top flight of English football is a lot more intense than any other league.

The fact remains that there are quite a few younger stars, which the Manchester based side can sign apart from Zlatan, who will remain with them and help them win titles in the long run. Then why waste such money on a star, who is surely past his best years and might take time to adjust to Premier League football and end up hurting Mourinho’s ambitions.

Remember what happened to Falcao when he made the move to England? Even “El Tigre” got tamed by the pace and intensity of the top flight of English football, so why not Zlatan? Is he really that special? We will find out soon!!
