Why This Manchester United Midfielder Would Be A Great Signing For Everton

Share

Morgan Schneiderlin did not have the best season in his campaign at Manchester United. Bought for €27 million from Southampton by the Red Devils, the 26-year-old Frenchman found it hard to cement a place in the starting XI and only started 25 games in the Premier League for the club, when he would have wanted more playing time in the side.

News coming in from various sources has stated that the French defensive midfielder is a target for Everton and with their new manager Ronald Koeman knowing Morgan during their time at Southampton, it would be a happy reunion at the Merseyside and with the extra cash that Everton have at the moment thanks to their new owner, they could take the star off the hands of Jose Mourinho.

Whether the Portuguese manager sees a future for Morgan at the club is to be seen but Mourinho does not waste time when it comes to taking players out of the club, especially if they do not fit his plans. Juan Mata was one prime example of it when he was at Chelsea and it could happen with Schneiderlin as well.

Everton though could be happy with the decision if they can nab the midfielder; the Frenchman is still in his prime and would only get better with more playing time at a club that is obviously going to be a force to reckon with in the future.

The Toffees do have Gareth Barry as one stalwart in the midfield but he isn’t getting any younger and maybe, just maybe, if some energy is brought back into the midfield, that could push them further up the table.

Schneiderlin is a bundle of energy in midfield and is known for his tackling and interceptions, something which he has always displayed, whether he played for United or Southampton. The 26-year-old averaged 2.6 tackles in all competitions last season, he averaged 4 tackles per game in the Europa League too but Barry does have a better record with 2.9 per game last season.

One stat where the Frenchman does score highly is interceptions, the 26-year-old averaged 2.5 interceptions per game and Barry only came in with 1.6 per game, so that would greatly help the Merseyside club next season.

The French midfielder also has a better pass competition percentage than Barry and that would be an important factor if Koeman can play his brand of attacking football which is dependent of possession and quick passing.

Morgan would probably be available at a snip and Koeman should not think twice and sign him up fast. He still could turn out to be one of the best midfielders next season but that can only take pace if he plays regularly and consistently in the starting XI.
