Turkish club Galatasaray have mentioned that United made an indirect offer for midfielder Wesley Sneijder, which they paid no attention to. It is pretty much a known factor that United are a long term admirers of the Dutch playmaker and have been trying to land him for well over two seasons now, but the deal did not go through for the wage demands of the player and Sneijder is currently plying his trade at Galatasaray.
Quoted by the Dailymail, it is said that United revived their interest under new manager David Moyes, with Galatasaray suggesting the Old Trafford side turned to Sneijder after failed attempts to land Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcanatara earlier this summer.
‘Sneijder received an indirect offer from Manchester United two weeks ago but it was not accepted. There are several clubs that want him but just like we can’t let go of Burak [Yilmaz] we also have to keep hold of Sneijder.’ Sporting coordinator Bulunt Tulun stated in an interview.
According to reports, United had also their bid for Danielle De Rossi rejected by Roma, after the club rated the player to valuable to let go.
In other news, as if the embarrassment during the transfer window was not enough for Manchester United. Even after the end of the transfer season, United fans still have to hear stories about clubs rejecting moves to United. The latest in the list is Real Madrid player Sami Khedira.
Khedira has revealed that United made an offer for him during the window and his club rejected the offer straight away. United were ready to spend as high as £34m for the German international, but Real were mot willing to let him go.
“The club turned down the offer and that was it,” he mentioned during a press conference for the German national team in Munich on Tuesday. “We didn’t really have the chance to discuss it. I had a longer chat with Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I’d stay at Real.”
He went on to state that Ozil’s departure was hard for him as they had been a successful pair in the midfield of Real.
“Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer,” he mentioned. “We are very, very good friends. His departure is a loss also from a sporting perspective. Mesut can make the difference.”
Both these players joined Real in 2010 and while Ozil has departed the La Liga side to play for Arsenal, Khedira will continue to ply his trade for Real.
