Manchester United: Is This The Type Of Signing They Were Expecting?

Share

It is not a signing exactly, but Manchester United player Nani has signed a new five year contract with the club extending his stay till 2018. The Portuguese midfielder had been linked with a host of clubs prior to the transfer window and Nani himself wanted out as he was deemed surplus to requirements by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson at United. However the arrival of David Moyes appears to have given the wide-man a second chance of impressing at Old Trafford.

Juventus were the last team that came in for Nani this summer but the winger decided to stay on and fight for his place. This has now yielded in the contract extension and he is visibly happy with the progress.

The winger stated “Playing at United has been a fantastic experience for me. When I came to the club, I never imagined the success we have enjoyed. Training every day with top players who want to win trophies every year is a great motivation to me. I’m very happy that the new manager has shown this faith in me and I’m looking forward to helping the team compete for more honours this season.”

The 26-year old joined the Manchester club back in 2007 and almost throughout his United career, Nani has been in and out of the team, mainly becuase of his lack of consistent performances. United, who have not been able to make any remarkable impact in the transfer window apart from the last minute capture of Fellaini from Everton, would be relieved that one of their players has committed his future to the club.

After his contract extension, manager David Moyes made the following statement.

“I’m really pleased Nani has re-signed for the next five years. He has great ability and experience beyond his 26 years. I’ve been impressed with his approach to training and look forward to working with him in the coming seasons.”

While one of their midfielder has committed his long term future to the club, another one of their most trusted midfielder has stated that he would love the competition of place that would arise from the signature of Fellaini.

Michael Carrick has mentioned that the addition of Fellaini in the squad would arise a competition of places between them and that he would enjoy that. In an interview Carrick mentioned made the following statement.

‘It’s something I welcome. The more top quality players you have in your squad, whether it’s in my position or not, the better it is for the team. It’s not a case of me thinking ‘I might not be in the team’, I will still have to play well to be in it regardless.’
