Why Manchester United Should Go All Out And Sign This Midfield Beast From Ligue 1

Share

Manchester United have struggled considerably since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson but now with Jose Mourinho in charge, fans are starting to believe again. However if Mourinho is going to get United on top next season, he will need to sign a few world class players who can add quality to his squad. Mourinho has never managed to stay at a club for more than three seasons but at United he will be looking to build a legacy obviously not equal to SAF but in the similar vein. He must start quickly off the blocks otherwise it won’t take long for the fans to turn against him.

Having already brought Eric Bailly earlier in the transfer window, the Portuguese is now focussed on getting PSG’s central midfielder Blaise Matuidi to Old Trafford. After being sacked from Chelsea last year, the pressure will be huge on Mourinho to prove to everyone that he hasn’t lost his mojo and is still the special one. The 29 year old French midfielder is one of the finest midfielders around right now and even in a team filled with super stars like Ibrahimovic and Cavani, it’s Matuidi who is generally pulling the strings from the middle. The French international has won four consecutive Ligue 1 title with PSG with commendable experience with the national side as well.

Matuidi stamina levels are excellent, which allows him to cover every inch of the grass and is often the players with the most distance covered in a match. Currently on national duty with the hosts of the 2016 Euros, Matuidi has a wealth of experience for the national team as well. Having won four consecutive Ligue 1 title with PSG, he might be looking for a different challenge come next season.

Ever since Paul Scholes left Manchester United, the Red Devils have spent millions of pounds on possible replacements for the English midfielde, but have failed miserably in their quest with lackluster signings such as Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin in the middle, all of whom have been average but nowhere near the level needed at Old Trafford and Blaise Matuidi looks like the complete package who is has enough talent to lift the quality in the centre of the field.

Matuidi might not be a prolific goal getter but he is superb at dispersing the ball beautifully to his teammates upfront. Even when it comes to defending, Matuidi rarely makes a mistake at the back and is also available to cover for his teammates, in case they are caught out of position on a counter attack. The Frenchman will be a perfect signing for Mourinho at this time, given his ability to control the game by dictating the tempo and pinging balls upfront, provides a solid cover for the defenders and is a powerhouse going forward.
