Manchester United: All The Latest News Surrounding Wayne Rooney

Share

Alex Ferguson had mentioned previously that Rooney wants his way out of the club in the summer and that he would try and change the player’s mind. But that hasn’t changed so far as the England International is all set for a face-to-face talk with David Moyes. Ahead of the crunch talks, former United assistant manager Mike Phelan has come out in the open about Rooney’s transfer situation and has stated that the main intention behind the player’s decision to move out, could be his desire to seek for a new challenge.

In an interview with the BBC Radio 5 Live Phelan said:

“Wayne is at the greatest club you can be at. Why would you want to jeopardise that? Unless you want a fresh challenge and you feel that challenge isn’t being met at Manchester United. Every player is entitled to express a desire to want to move on. Any player can do that at any time.”

Talking about the second transfer request that Rooney put forth this year, Phelan added,

“You can put the first one down to inexperience but the second one is putting yourself right out there. Somewhere down the line there will be words said, there will be meetings. They’ll see if it’s still alive and worth going for or they’ll call time on it.”

Reportedly Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in the striker and they would welcome him with open arms. Barcelona have also shown some intention to bring him to Camp Nou and their new recruit Neymar has already stated that he would love to see the player in a Barcelona shirt. Ligue 1 side PSG are also monitoring the situation of the striker and Rooney may even follow former United man David Beckham to join the newly cash enriched club.

Amongst all these rumours about Rooney, Gurdian reports that manager David Moyes is scheduled to hold talks with the rebellious striker on Wednesday as United try and put an end to the unresolved state of affairs. The two had already met before the summer breaks and the striker then made it clear to the manager of his reasons to leave. He pointed it out to the new man in charge his displeasure because of Sir Alex’s decision to play him out of his position and asking him to drop back at times. He was also unhappy being benched in crucial matches, thus justifying of his desire to leave.

It is expected that Moyes would go through all the concerns of the player before taking a final call.

In other news, Chelsea shot-stopper Petr Cech has come out and revealed that he would like to see the United forward at Stamford Bridge next season.

Quoted by the Sky Sports, Cech said:

“I could see him in a Chelsea shirt. Players can change shirts and obviously he had a fantastic career with Manchester United and sometimes players need new challenges.

“Sometimes the consequences are the way that you are looking for the new challenge and change of the shirt. So if that happened, obviously he is a fantastic player and he will be welcome to our squad but now we are only in the moment of speculations about it so we will see what this week will bring.”

“He’s a great player and you always want to see great players in your team.”

The London club are in the midst of a serious crisis in their striking department, as their pursuit of Napoli forward Cavani is still dragging and Rooney may not be a very bad option for Mourinho to look at if he fails to capture Cavani.
