Manchester United – 3 Reasons Why Transferring Out This £300k Man Is A Good Step For The Red Devils

Share

So this has been a disastrous season for Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to call it a day last term. They had to fire their manager mid season and bow out of Champions League football. But the season is finally nearing the end and with that they have already started to have new aspirations about the new season. A new manager will be in charge next season and they can expect a lot of new faces at the club. Amid these a new question arises as to what should be done to the existing players and whether they should be sold off during summer? Well some of them should obviously be sold for lack of quality among other reasons. But we think that even selling Wayne Rooney is not a very bad idea. We give three reasons as to why that is.

Rooney

1. Transfer in of Cavani- Manchester United have a long wishlist in the summer featuring some of the most exciting names in world football and Cavani features high up in the list. The Uruguayan striker left Napoli for PSG last season, but has not been too successful alongside Zlatan for the French side. He has not been at his usual best and always been under the shadow of the Swede. This has reportedly frustrated him with him wanting a move out. United may come calling and we should not be surprised if United break their previous transfer records for Cavani. Now with such a maverick striker in the squad alongside RVP, Rooney will find it extremely difficult to play at his favoured position and a move out of the club would seem reasonable.

2. A new start- Rooney has been a great server for the club for a very long time. Often he has taken up the burden of the whole team on his own shoulders and many trophies have been won because of his brilliance. But that cannot undermine the problems that he has created off the field and the disturbed atmosphere that has occurred due to him. His demands and his bargaining do not set a very good example and not something which the club should endorse. Also his off-field behaviour has not always been the best and he has had issues with discipline on and off the field. In a new atmosphere under a new manager all these diversions are the last thing that United would want right now and it is best for them if Rooney is asked to leave.

3. Salary burden- Let us be very blatant about this. Only a player like Ronaldo and Messi deserve a salary of £300k and with all due respect to the stature of Rooney, this is just too high a wage for him. With that kind of a wage United should look forward to much more services from the striker, which clearly has not been the case. With so many new players coming in, the wage bill of the club is set to shoot high and it is not unwise for them to free themselves from the burden of the wage that they have to carry for Rooney.
