Man City signing this promising Ligue 1 prospect as Fernandinho replacement would be a serious downgrade

Manchester City opinion: Guardiola should stay away from Houssem Aouar

Manchester City completed the domestic treble with startling ease and their 6-0 win over Watford proved that. However, their Premier League title may have been a little harder than that. But they still steamrolled over a lot of top-flight sides, making them look like absolute nobodies.

It’s that kind of dominance that the board appointed Pep Guardiola a few years ago. The Spaniard helped both Barcelona and Bayern Munich dominate their respective leagues before leaving for the Premier League. While his first season didn’t go according to plan, his second and his third certainly did.

Two consecutive Premier League titles, one with the most points in Premier League history, the club ended up breaking a few records along the way.

This season did see Liverpool put up an incredible fight but even they couldn’t sustain it. In the end, it was all Manchester City and the Cityzens made sure that they had their treble confirmed. But they still have a long way to go when it comes to Europe and the biggest trophy available.

The Champions League has been Guardiola’s Achilles heel without a certain Argentine star. That’s one of the many reasons why he’s only managed to reach the semi-finals.

And he did it with Bayern Munich and not even Manchester City, with the farthest being the quarter-finals.

They need to buck up their team and by adding the right players, they can do exactly that, especially given a few ageing superstars. Both David Silva and Fernandinho need replacing, with Bernardo Silva helping out with the former.

But the latter will be easier said than done and while Houssem Aouar is a talented star, he isn’t their man.

The 20-year-old is arguably one of Olympique Lyon’s best stars and that alone should guarantee him a move to a bigger side. That has seen the Mirror report that City are keen on a move and so is the 20-year-old.

And if Manchester City hadn’t signed Bernardo Silva, then Aouar would have been the perfect replacement for David Silva. But that did happen and Manchester City have already shown that they do not need someone like the 20-year-old.

Instead, they need two other players in two other positions and Houssem Aouar doesn’t play either.

Conclusion

Houssem Aouar is a talented star with a lot of time and potential to grow into one of the best.

He needs the right move to help him do just that and Manchester City isn’t that. Instead, the Frenchman and the Cityzens should look elsewhere because it’s a waste of money either way.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
