Man United vs Wolves prediction: 3 key tactical battles

Manchester United kicked things off in great fashion as they beat Chelsea 4-0 in their opening fixture.

They have another tough fixture at the Molineux against a Wolves side that were a bogey team for them last season. If they can get another positive result, they’ll head into this new season with no fear and will be desperate for the 3 points.

Wolves, on the other hand, came off a 0-0 draw against Leicester City and if they want to make progress on their achievements last season, they’ll have to turn those good performances into wins and will have to do the same in the game against United.

This is a Monday night kickoff and let’s have a look at the most interesting tactical battles:

Who will play on the counter?

Wolves and United are two of the best counter-attacking sides in the Premier League and it’ll be interesting to see, which side decides to surrender possession as they’re both very capable of hitting you on the break.

This could dictate how the tie goes and whichever side takes a lead in the game will likely end up winning it as they’re both very comfortable at soaking up pressure.

Ruben Neves

Jimenez vs Maguire

Manchester United have a lot of players, who are capable of playing a high-press and this might force wolves to initiate attacks with long balls.

Last season, United struggled to win these long balls to Raul Jimenez but with Harry Maguire in the side now, they can nullify that threat as the Englishman is one of the most dominant centre-backs in the air.

This will prove to be a massive hurdle that Wolves will have to overcome that they didn’t have to face last season.

Anthony Martial

Manchester United have sold Romelu Lukaku and they’ll need someone with centre-forward instincts against this solid Wolves side.

Martial will have to make more runs in the box like he did against Chelsea for his second goal last week. Martial has a fantastic conversion rate and with his new role that is closer to the goal, he will be a massive threat as Wolves cannot allow him the time to take a shot.
