Man Utd reviving interest in signing this versatile 24-year-old on a cut-price deal would be a major bargain – Agreed?

Why Ozan Turfan would be a smart signing for Manchester United

Back in July 2016, the Express had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Fenerbahce midfielder Ozan Tufan. However, no deal materialised then.

Ozan Tufan, 24, was once regarded a top talent in Turkish football and his stellar performances in Euro 2016 had actually attracted a lot of interest from Premier League. But the midfielder hasn’t been able to scale the heights he was once expected to do so, with Fenerbahce loaning him out to Alanyaspor in January to get his career back on track.

The decision has worked wonders as Tufan has kicked on this season back at his parent club, Fenerbahce. His contract with Fenerbahce will expire at the end of this season, meaning he can speak with clubs outside of Turkey in January.

However, Manchester United should aim to sign the versatile midfielder for a cut-price deal when the transfer window reopens.

Manchester United have struggled royally after the opening day 4-0 victory over Chelsea. A lack of quality in every department of the pitch has seen the Red Devils amass just eight points after six Premier League games.

Truth to be told, they have been struggling the most in midfield following Ander Herrera’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain and Nemanja Matic’s poor form. Scott McTominay has been decent but question marks remain over his status as a regular starter, while Pogba has just returned from injury.

Fred is yet to start a Premier League game this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apparently not yet convinced with the Brazilian.

And so, with all being said, besides Pogba, Solskjær does not have the required options at hand to be able to get the best from his team. Having said that, a move for Ozan Tufan would completely make sense for the Red Devils.

Primarily a central midfielder, Tufan’s versatility allows him to operate as a right-back, winger or an enforcer. At 6ft, he is a tall, strong presence with excellent technical abilities on the ball and impressive reading of the game. The Turkey international ticks all the boxes for the sort of player Manchester United should be targeting.

Tufan is just 24-years-old, and he would be a direct replacement for the departed Ander Herrera. His potential is sky-high, he has all the required attributes to thrive in the Premier League and is amassing great experience competing in Super Lig on a weekly basis.

Renowned for his dynamic forward bursts, deceptive passing and impressive physicality, the Turkish ace would be a great fit at Old Trafford.

Verdict

As Tufan’s contract with Fenerbahce expires at the end of the season, he’ll potentially be available on a cut-price deal in January. And that’s why United should be all over him in the New Year.
