Five talking points from matchday 4 of the Premier League

The final matchday of the Premier League prior to the first international break of the season was full of talking points as usual. While Liverpool, Chelsea and Watford continue their perfect record, champions Manchester City got themselves back to winning ways.

Manchester United revived their confidence by comfortably beating Burnley at Turf Moor. Here are the five talking points from matchday 4 in the English Premier League:

1) Liverpool and Chelsea show early positive signs

Liverpool and Chelsea continued their early perfect record this season by beating Leicester City and Bournemouth respectively. While the Reds displayed resilience and defensive solidity to overcome a buoyant Foxes, the Blues showed patience and command to overcome a resolute Bournemouth side.

Jurgen Klopp

Even though these are early days, both Jurgen Klopp and Maurizio Sarri would be pleased with the start.

2) Spurs buckle under pressure again, Watford show fight and courage

Tottenham have had an unfortunate history of bowing down when the pressure is high, and that trend continued when they surrendered a lead against Watford to lose for the first time this season. Credits to the Hornets though, for staying in the game and showing courage to go at Tottenham even after conceding an unfortunate own goal early in the second half.

3) West Ham remain pointless

After spending loads in the summer after hiring a new manager, West Ham were expected to improve this season. But as is the case thus far, the Hammers are yet to even win a point in four games, scoring just two goals and conceding 10.

Manuel Pellegrini

Nothing is working for Manuel Pellegrini and maybe the international break has arrived at the right time for the Chilean.

4) Manchester United show spirit to win at Burnley

After a humbling defeat at home to Spurs, the chips were down in the Manchester United dressing room. However, that wasn’t the case when they played Burnley at Turf Moor.

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s men put in a classy performance to cruise past the Clarets even after missing a penalty and being a man down.

5) Burnley are sliding

The euphoria of playing in the European competition has turned into a harsh reality for Burnley and Sean Dyche. After finishing seventh last season, the Europa League qualifiers took a lot out of the small squad even before this campaign began. They are now finding it difficult to match their performances from last season.
