Man City splashing £50m on this promising Brazilian would get them a top-class Aguero replacement for the future

Why Everton Soares can be Aguero’s long-term replacement at Man City

Currently playing for Gremio, the 22-year-old Everton Soares was in exceptional form for the Brazilian side last season, finishing with 16 goals.

He played a major part as they reached the Copa Libertadores semi-final, scoring 5 goals in 8 appearances in the process. Now with the Mirror revealing that Everton Soares is a Manchester City target and a £50million bid is close, things could get interesting.

Linked with a move to Manchester United after the Brazilian domestic league ended, the 22-year-old could essentially be Sergio Aguero’s replacement. While he does predominantly play as a left-winger, Soares’ ability in front of the goal, might just be on par if not slightly better than fellow Brazilian Gabriel Jesus.

The former Palmeiras striker isn’t having the best of seasons with Manchester City, thanks in part to a drop in confidence after his struggles at the World Cup. This has seen Jesus make only 27 appearances so far this season and thus, it opens a potential move for Everton Soares.

The Brazilian’s versatility allows him to play anywhere across the line, while his close control and excellent footwork make him a tricky customer for any defender to deal with.

Moreover, the 22-year-old is very quick off the mark and is very sharp in the opposition box. The Brazilian is blessed with creativity and strength to add to his speed and agility, which does make him a rather rare breed. Plus for Manchester City, the fact that he is only 5’7” won’t make as much of a difference.

ESPN had previously revealed that Manchester United were interested in a move for Everton Soares but that was when Jose Mourinho was the boss. So far under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, no reports have emerged, which puts Pep Guardiola and his men in pole position.

While Aguero still has at least another two odd years left before his levels start dropping, the Cityzens need to make a move for Everton Soares before someone else does.

While there are no other suitors in the race at the moment, Brazil’s domestic season will start soon and if this season turns out to be anything like Everton’s last season, then there will be a catalogue of clubs chasing him.
