Man City should avoid another Sancho saga and keep hold of this 18-year-old youth star amidst Bayern interest

Why Manchester City should keep youth star Rabbi Matondo

The Guardian has reported that Bayern Munich are chasing another British starlet in Manchester City youngster Rabbit Matondo. The 18-year-old is one of the Cityzens’ brightest prospects but interest from the Bavarian giants is very high as they search for their version of Jadon Sancho.

The former Manchester City star is now currently flourishing at Borussia Dortmund and has seen his value skyrocket in the last six months. For Pep Guardiola and company, it has not been easy over the last few months and they recently lost Brahim Diaz to Real Madrid after a long and drawn out transfer saga.

However, hopefully, Manchester City learn their lesson and keep Rabbi Matondo at the club despite interest from Bayern Munich. The winger has been among the reigning Champions’ best stars at the youth level but more so, it’s his speed that makes him so valuable.

Comparable to a rocket at times, Matondo is unstoppable when he is at his very best, as he was for Wales.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the Wales national team under Ryan Giggs in November 2018, in a rather surprising call up for the youngster. However, as time goes by, don’t be surprised if Rabbi Matondo adds to that lone cap of his. Given his ability on the ball, he bears a striking likeness to Gareth Bale.

However, unlike the former Southampton man, times have changed for the Manchester City man and with Bayern Munich building a new era under Niko Kovac, things could change. The Bundesliga has been the choice league for youngsters looking for game time, but Manchester City need to put a stop to all this.

While their first-team is chock full of young and world-class potential stars, they need to make sure that another Jadon Sancho saga doesn’t happen ever again. Otherwise, it could and will get really, really embarrassing for them in the near future and no buy-back clause will ever change that.

However, at the moment, they have a chance to do that with Rabbi Matondo, and stopping him from leaving will take some doing, especially given that Bayern Munich are after him.

The prospect of first-team football is more than tantalising for any youngster, but to get it at a club like Bayern Munich could make things worse for Pep Guardiola and company.

Matondo is an unfinished product but with time, the 18-year-old Welsh star could easily become as good if not better than Gareth Bale.
