Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney made his comeback playing for Manchester United U21s against Middlesbrough. The Red Devils won the game by 1-0 thanks to Paddy Macnair’s goal, after a minute of Rooney getting replaced.
The player had gone out of action since February due to a knee problem suffered during the match against Sunderland on 13th of February.
He played for 61 minutes suggesting that he is fit for a first team football. Rooney’s return has obviously made Van Gaal who had only Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford at his disposal.
Rooney missed out on 12 matches for Manchester United due to his injury, and may be a breath of fresh air for Louis Van Gaal as the top-four position in the Premier League title slips further away from the Red Devils. With United’s floundering state, Rooney is a requirement for Van Gaal if only for numbers.
