Leeds United News: Former English striker Noel Whelan has been tipped off by Leeds United’ U-23 manager Carlos Corberan to be the successor toMarcelo Bielsa. (h/t Football Insider)
Bielsa is currently fighting hard for Premier League promotion in his first season at Elland Road.
Leeds were seen as the favourites to make it to England’s top-flight.
Now, Whelan suggests that Corberan could be the manager to inherit the Argentine’s side.
We don’t know what the future holds, one thing for sure, Corberan knows what he’s doing and it’s definitely possible,”
“He’s on the bench as well for first-team games so he’s got that close relationship with Marcelo Bielsa and, with every player who’s gone into management after playing days, you always take something from a manager.
Leeds’ BBC pundit added that the Spaniard had learnt a lot from the former Chile Head Coach.
The 36-year-old currently works as the Whites’ first-team coach, as well as the reserves head coach.
He has had managerial stints with clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Corberan started his career at Al-Ittihad with the help of Pep Guardiola.
Later, he was appointed as the head coach of Ermis FC, a club in Cyprus. The Spaniard led his side finish seventh in the table.
He later made his way to England to replace Jason Blunt as the Whites’ U-23 head coach.
It is also feared that Bielsa could seek an exit from the Championship if Leeds fail to earn a spot in the Premier League.
Sheffield United, Leeds United promotion-chasing rivals, alongside Norwich City, will look to confirm automatic promotion this week.
