Liverpool vs Arsenal: 3 Reasons Why Liverpool Will Lose The Big Game On Wednesday Night

Liverpool vs Arsenal: Can Klopp Stop Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger takes his side to Merseyside in the wake of their 3-1 hammering of Sunderland in the Football Association Cup third round. Either team have featured in closely contested skirmishes — such as their recent stalemate at Ashburton Grove — against each other, but the Anfield clash appears to be rather one-sided, with the Gunners expected to run away victors.

  1. Guess who picked up form against the Rokerites.
Hector Bellerin

Thanks to the non-availability of an understudy, Hector Bellerin has been patrolling the right flank more often than he should have and as a result, the youngster seemed to have burned out at some point. However, he bounced back against a helpless Sam Allardyce team notching up two assists in the process.

As long as the Scousers manage to shut down Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal will struggle to be the threatening force that they could otherwise be and that is when pacey full backs and wingers come in handy. Theo Walcott and the Spanish right-back will pocket all three points should Liverpool manage to pocket their more creative teammates.

2. Who takes up the goal-scoring responsibility?

Liverpool have amassed a meagre 22 goals in the Premier League this season and only five teams, including relegation battling Aston Villa and Newcastle United have scored fewer goals. With strikers Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings still nursing their injuries, Jurgen Klopp only has out-of-form Christian Benteke at his disposal and the Belgian only reiterated why his side desperately needs striker reinforcements as he had yet another wasteful display against Exeter last week.

Arsenal have averaged two goals in eight games in all competitions while Liverpool have managed only seven in the same number of games. At this rate, the home side will even embrace a goalless draw as that is realistically the most positive result they can ask for.

3. Can they stop the in-form Arsenal?

Can Klopp Stop Arsenal?

Arsenal are the team to beat this season, but they seem to have their off days more often than they should in order to be crowned champions. However, the Gunners will likely not go through a déjà vu of Southampton or West Bromwich Albion, considering the number of casualties Liverpool have suffered.

Arsenal clearly have an upper hand, despite being victims of the wrath of injuries themselves, given their unreal run of form. As the Gunners have finally broken the psychological barrier against big clubs, they can be expected to run the show in front of the Kop.

Kolo Toure and Steven Caulker will have a tough time dealing with the intricate link-up play that the league leaders have perfected through the years. If both teams manage to play their best football, Arsenal will score more than a couple of goals. However, we may witness what most of us do not anticipate if Liverpool resort to Southampton-esque pressing.
