Liverpool signing this 32-year-old PL winner as backup for Robertson would work wonders for Klopp

Why Liverpool should bring in Christian Fuchs as backup for Andrew Robertson

Liverpool are one of the three teams yet to be beaten in the Premier League this season. Jurgen Klopp’s men have made an excellent start to the season are very much one of the favourites to trump Manchester City to the title this season.

Though the Cityzens are on top of the table, Liverpool are hot on their tails and will look to pounce on any dropped points by Guardiola’s side. Klopp has significantly strengthened the squad but the manager is set to dive into the market once again in January.

According to the Mirror, Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is set to leave for free at the end of the season. The Spaniard will be out of contract in the summer and will not be handed a new one as per the latest reports. The rise of Andrew Robertson has seen the former Sevilla defender’s chances of regular football diminish.

But Klopp is definitely going to need another full-back to offer cover for the Scottish national team captain. Robertson has been brilliant so far but the former Hull City defender has looked slightly fatigued at times this season.

While Klopp rotates Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, Robertson has been an ever-present in the team this season. Given that Moreno could be shipped out in January on a cut-price deal, Jurgen Klopp should consider out of favour Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs.

The Austrian international has not played a single Premier League game this season due to the emergence of Ben Chilwell, but he was a crucial member of the Leicester side that famously lifted the Premier League crown a few years ago.

The 32-year-old has made just 2 appearances in the League cup this season and has scored 1 goal. He may not be as offensively explosive as Robertson or Moreno, but the Leicester defender is defensively solid.

He is very good with his positioning and rarely gives away the ball cheaply in possession. The Austrian is a lot more defensive minded than Robertson, which could play into Liverpool’s hands when they rest the Scot.

Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs

Fuchs is also good going forward and is more than capable of whipping in the crosses. Moreover, he is also a throw-in specialist and the fact that Liverpool brought in a new throw-in coach should see their attackers receive a lot of chances inside the box with Fuchs sending the ball in.

Liverpool should definitely make the move for Christian Fuchs in January. It’s clear that he has no future left at the club given the way Ben Chilwell is playing. In Merseyside, Fuchs would be a squad player but he would get far more game time than at Leicester and will also be able to play in the Champions League too.
