Why Tottenham should revive their interest in Jack Grealish

Tottenham Hotspur failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window. Mauricio Pochettino certainly needs to get back into the market if Spurs are to challenge for the title this season.

Their biggest miss would have definitely been Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. The Villa star was linked with a move to North London all summer but ultimately penned a new five-year contract with his club. (Sky Sports)

Spurs have made their best start to a campaign this time out and will certainly want to make the best of it. A couple of injuries and a few inconsistent performers have seen their game slightly derailed, which is why Pochettino should add some fresh faces.

He can start by reviving the club’s interest in Jack Grealish. The Villa midfielder has once again started the season in impressive form, scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists in 17 appearances. Playing through the middle of the park, Spurs don’t have a creative maestro like Grealish in their ranks apart from Christian Eriksen. The Dane has not been in form this season, which is one of the major reasons the Lilywhites often struggle to find the back of the net.

The likes of Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Dele Alli all play with flair and energy in their game but none has the precision and the panache that Grealish possesses. Spurs striker Harry Kane has also found goals difficult to come by but with the Aston Villa midfielder pulling the strings, he will certainly receive more chances in the final third.

Grealish has averaged 2.1 key passes per game this season while also managing a pass success rate of 87.9%. He’s extremely quick on the ball and leaves the defenders in their wake. Grealish’s ability to drive at defences will see Harry Kane and co. receive more space to make their runs.

The 23-year-old will seamlessly fit into Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 formation used this season. He would thrive playing as a central attacking midfielder alongside speedsters like Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura.
