According to AS English, Real Madrid have rejected an offer from Tottenham for Marco Asensio. The North London club are finally looking to spend money and one of their first targets seems to be the Spaniard.
While it seems like Tanguy Ndombele might be achievable, Asensio is way out of their budget. With Real Madrid keen on a certain Christen Eriksen, Spurs need to use that interest to their advantage and somehow convince them to let go of Asensio.
Because signing him will be Mauricio Pochettino’s coup de grace to the Premier League. It’s a move that would effectively make both his and Tottenham’s season, one that would make them title contenders.
But by making a move as audacious as Marco Asensio, for a fee lower than his obscene buyout clause, it would change things. It would push them alongside Liverpool and Manchester City, which is what Spurs need.
They reached the Champions League final, proving their haters wrong along the way. However, their collapse in the Premier League was incredible and profound at the same time, because it was all their doing.
Had they spent money on just one man, to help replace Mousa Dembele, things might have been different. It’s not the only reason their Premier League season collapsed, but it was a rather large one.
However, this doesn’t mean Marco Asensio will replace the Belgian but what he would do is add a tinge of world-class quality. He’ll up the ante and be the marquee superstar that Spurs need.
As good as he may be, Harry Kane cannot do everything on his own and that’s exactly where Marco Asensio comes into play. A devastatingly good attacker, there is little that the 23-year-old cannot do going forward.
He’s a proven goalscorer, creator in chief and a sensational dribbler with the ball at his feet. What will help, however, is Asensio’s sheer lack of fear, something that has amazed fans and critics alike at Real Madrid.
It seems that there is little that the young Spaniard cannot do, and it’s what makes him the ideal man to walk into Tottenham’s project. Plus, there is the added benefit that if he does do that, he would be a bonafide superstar in one of the best leagues in the world.
