Leicester signing £70k-a-week Arsenal star for free would be daylight robbery and Rodgers must do this

Leicester City Opinion: Can Danny Welbeck make an impact at Leicester?

Losing Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City was a massive blow for Leicester City but the Foxes spent smartly over the summer to adjust to that.

But, Rachid Ghezzal has struggled to make an impact since his move from AS Monaco, while Demarai Gray has also struggled to step up and take his spot in the first-team.

But James Maddison and the return of Harvey Barnes has been more than enough to make up for it, as both stars have impressed. While Maddison has replaced the creative force that Mahrez was, Barnes, on the other hand, has proved to be a bright spark.

Things could be worse and having sacked Claude Puel, the Foxes are looking towards the future. Brendan Rodgers has been allotted £200million (Sun) by the club’s board and there is one man he should sign.

That’s Arsenal star Danny Welbeck, with the forward out of contract at the end of the current season. The 28-year-old was a big part of Unai Emery’s plans before an injury ruled him out for the season.

To make things worse, towards the end of January, the Standard reported that Welbeck is all set to leave the club for free at the end of the current season.

The former Manchester United star hasn’t played since he hurt his ankle in a home game against Sporting CP. For Leicester City, that’s one of the many reasons as to why they should make a move for him.

While Welbeck has been suffered his fair share of injury issues over the years, the £70,000-a-week forward still remains a quality player. What he could replace for the Foxes are the goals that Mahrez added at key moments.

The Englishman has done that time and again for Arsenal and his work rate will earn him a place in the hearts of fans. A tireless runner with and without the ball, Welbeck does more than his fair share of defensive work and is a team player.

This season alone, he’s been used as a winger, a wing-back and as a centre-forward by Emery, yet the 28-year-old did it without complaining. This would be a successful move for Danny Welbeck and the Foxes as the Englishman has the talent and ability to potentially lead them out of Riyad Mahrez’s shadow.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
