According to a report from The Daily Mail, Leicester City are considering Watford’s Christian Kabasele as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire.
Harry Maguire, 26, has signed a six-year contract with Manchester United, a deal which makes him the world’s most expensive defender. The Red Devils confirmed his £80m transfer from Leicester, with the England international signing on the dotted lines at Old Trafford after passing a medical on Sunday.
The Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers will, therefore, need to find a replacement for Harry Maguire. The England international has been a consistent performer for Leicester City since joining from Hull City two summers ago, establishing himself as one of Premier League’s top defenders in recent times.
His departure has certainly left a huge gap in the Foxes squad which Rodgers has to fill in before Thursday’s deadline.
Given the funds raised from Maguire’s sale, Rodgers will have plenty of cash with which to sign a new central defender. But should the northern Irish tactician splash the cash to sign Christian Kabasele from Watford?
Kabasele, 28, joined Watford from Belgian club Genk in 2016 and has been a consistent performer in the Premier League ever since. He is one of the most underrated defenders in the English top-flight and shone as the Hornets enjoyed a superb 2018/19 season, finishing eleventh and reaching the FA Cup final.
Standing just short of 6ft 2in, the two-cap Belgium international is a commanding presence in the box and he reads the game well. He is strong, powerful and a no-nonsense defender, who prefers to often opt for the safer route of clearing the ball rather passing out from the back.
Kabasele knows how to dominate the opposition in the air using his incredible strength and leaping ability.
He is also a reliable defender inside his own half and can make essential interceptions for his side. The 28-year-old doesn’t exactly possess the qualities of the departed Maguire and isn’t a spectacular defender by any means.
That being said, however, Kabasele is a reliable presence and is more than capable of keeping things tight at the back.
Kabasele is currently playing in his prime and while he won’t be a like-for-like Maguire replacement, he did well at Watford last season and put in some commanding displays in defence at the Vicarage Road.

The Congo-born Belgium international will be a decent signing for the Hornets if they can find a way to lure him to the King Power Stadium before the start of the new campaign.
