According to The Sun, Leicester City midfielder Adrien Silva is on the verge of rejoining Ligue 1 heavyweights Monaco on a season-long loan deal, with the report claiming that the 30-year-old is set to return to the Stade Louis before the European transfer deadline.
Silva is set to undergo a medical at Monaco and a loan move is expected to be finalised in the coming days, with Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers keen to trim his midfield options following the arrival of a few fresh faces earlier this summer. (h/t Sun)
The Portuguese international featured only twice in the Premier League under former manager Claude Puel last season before moving out on loan to Monaco in January.
Monaco were in a precarious position in Ligue 1 when Silva made the switch in January but the central midfielder featured on 15 occasions for the French side in the second half of the 2018-19 campaign, playing a key role to help his club beat the drop.
Silva, who rose to prominence with Sporting Lisbon in his homeland before completing a £22million move to Leicester City in January 2018, has struggled to live up to his price tag at the King Power Stadium.
The midfielder was overlooked by Puel for some unknown reason and Rodgers apparently doesn’t seem interested in offering him a second chance.
The Euro 2016 winner, who has 26 senior international caps for Portugal, is way down the pecking order at Leicester City following the arrival of Belgian duo Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans.
Having amassed only 21 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions over the course of one-and-a-half seasons, it doesn’t look like the 30-year-old has a future at the King Power Stadium, and a move away from the club should be a win-win situation for all parties involved.
Leicester, meanwhile, are yet to register their first victory of the Premier League this season, having played out draws against Wolves and Chelsea in their first two fixtures.
The Foxes, though, look set for another stern test away from home when they make the trip to Bramall Lane to face an unbeaten Sheffield United this weekend.
Flop striker Islam Slimani has already been shipped out on loan to Monaco and Silva looks set to reunite with his teammate in Ligue 1.
To put things into perspective, Leicester City already find themselves well-stocked in the central midfield department and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out as to why Rodgers is keen to get Silva off his books.
With the likes of Hamza Choudhury, Nampalys Mendy, Wilfried Ndidi, Praet and Tielemans all in the ranks, Silva faces the risk of spending large quarters of the ongoing season on the bench. Hence, it would make absolutely no sense for the Foxes to pay him for warming the bench.
Looking at things from the player’s perspective, the Portuguese international is very much in his prime years as a midfielder and he wouldn’t want his career to be wasted away by constantly sitting on the sidelines.
Monaco, on the other hand, are going through a rebuilding phase and Silva’s experience coupled with his guile and composure is likely to come in handy for the French side.

With that in mind, Adrien Silva’s loan move to Monaco looks like a good proposition for all parties involved, and it won’t really make much sense for the Foxes to stand in his way.
