Leicester Could Be The Ideal Destination Ahead Of Tottenham For This Portuguese Star: Agreed?

Leicester City or Tottenham Hotspur – Who Should Adrien Silva Join This Summer?

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make their first signing this summer but Mauricio Pochettino is already looking for possible additions to the squad next season. And reports suggest that he is ready to go head to head with former Premier League champions Leicester City for the signature of Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva.

The 28-year old is a youth product of Benfica and has been the first choice for the club for a while now. However, the Portuguese outfit are ready to let him leave for around £26m and both the English clubs are reportedly ready to meet his valuation this summer. So which is a better destination for the midfielder?

A central midfielder by trait, the 28-year old is a defensive minded player with decent skill on the ball. He is strong with his hold up play and loves to sit back and dictate the game while he is also adept at pushing path-breaking passes from a deeper role. He has not been able to cement a place in the first team for the national side but at 28, he stands as one of the most experienced players in his country in this position.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs use a 4-2-3-1 system, and a 3-4-3 system at times, that has seen a pair of midfielders shielding the backline, while also acting as the deepest line of attack against weaker teams.

Pochettino already has the likes of Eric Dier, Victory Wanyama and Mousa Dembele as options for this, while Harry Winks represents the future. There may be a place for another midfielder, but not one who is unable to establish himself at the highest stage.

Spurs need a more dependable star who can take on the responsibilities when called upon and Silva, though experienced, is not going to improve the quality in the squad immensely.

Conversely, at the King Power, Craig Shakespeare uses a 4-4-2 formation, which also uses two midfielders in a compact system. Danny Drinkwater, Daniel Amartey and Wilfried Ndidi were all used to decent effect last season but Silva is a genuine upgrade on at least two of those names.

Ndidi did a decent job last season but might need more time to establish himself at the club and could be replaced by Silva in the first team next season. Danny Drinkwater might keep his place while Amartey will not be far behind.

At 28, the Portuguese star needs to play every game to earn a place back into the national team and the King Power looks a better destination for him, as he will walk into the first team unchallenged.
