According to reports in the Sun, Manchester United are ready to offload Andreas Pereira to Leicester City in any deal that might see Harry Maguire go the other way.
United have been heavily linked with Maguire since the start of last season after his impressive displays for England in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. United aren’t the only interested party for the England International’s signature as their neighbours, Manchester City, are also in the running.
The report from the Sun suggests that United are unwilling to meet Leicester City’s valuation of Maguire, having stamped a ridiculous valuation of £90million.
The report also states that Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of the 23-year-old Pereira and even wanted him at Park Head when he was at the helm at Celtic. The offer is suggested to be a loan-deal and Leicester would be getting a player with a lot of potential and versatility.
Pereira has had two loan spells in the La Liga with Valencia and Granada before breaking through the United first-team last season.
After losing his place under Jose Mourinho after a disastrous game against Brighton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to instil some confidence in the Brazilian but an error against Burnley was believed to be the end of Pereira’s United career.
It wasn’t to be, however, as Pereira made a substitute appearance against arch-rivals Liverpool, where he impressed massively and took the game in his stride to conjure up some very impressive performances thereafter against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Southampton.
Pereira, with a little patience, can be a great squad player for any team. He’s capable of doing a job in most midfield positions and even doing a job on the flanks as a wide-midfielder if required.
Leicester impressed last season but fell just short of a Europa League spot, having finished in 8th place behind Wolverhampton Wanderers. Leicester have no urgency to sell Harry Maguire and will need a player with his qualities to make that step up for a Europa League or even a Champions League place.
