Leicester City opinion: The Foxes should make a move for Aaron Mooy

According to a report from the Examiner, Leicester City are one of a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Huddersfield Town midfielder, Aaron Mooy.

Huddersfield Town are preparing for a Championship campaign after two seasons in the Premier League ended in relegation.

Aaron Mooy has been one of Huddersfield’s most important players since joining on loan from Manchester City in 2016 and subsequently signing permanently in 2017. He was one of the Terriers’ rare bright sparks in an otherwise forgettable 2018/19 campaign.

The Australian international, 28, is contracted to Huddersfield Town until next summer, with Town having the option to extend those terms by a further 12 months. However, the report claims Premier League clubs believe Mooy can be signed for around £15m.

That being said, Leicester City should go all out to sign Aaron Mooy this summer.

Leicester City are yet to make a signing in the Brendan Rodgers era despite the summer transfer window being wide open for a month now. Rodgers has been assured funds this summer in his pursuit to break the Premier League’s top-six, after finishing the last season in ninth place.

The Leicester faithful can be excited for the future, now that they have Rodgers in charge. The Northern Irishman has a really good squad comprising of thrilling young talents and some experienced internationals.

In order to fulfil the 2019/20 campaign’s aims and objectives, the Foxes will need to add some more quality to their squad.

The club are still trying to sign AS Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, following an impressive loan spell in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Belgian has also been the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, which has made it difficult for Leicester to get a deal done. Should a deal not materialise, the Foxes must switch their attention towards bringing in Aaron Mooy.

Mooy will be a good alternative for Tielemans, thanks to his distribution skills, flair and ability to pick a pass in the final third.

Those qualities have helped him thrive as the creative fulcrum of Huddersfield Town since joining from Manchester City a few years ago. He can also flourish in a deeper role and boss the game with his passing and tackling skills.

The Australian international’s energy and intensity to drive his team forward from midfield makes him such a quality player. Plus, Mooy has now good Premier League experience, which will be helpful in a relatively youthful Leicester squad under Rodgers.

Verdict

There is no doubt that Mooy has the qualities to play in the Premier League. Valued at around £15m, the Foxes could make a smart addition to their squad by bagging the 28-year-old’s signature.
