Leicester City opinion: Leicester City should offload Islam Slimani

Leicester City were very impressive over the weekend against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and should’ve gotten all 3 points to set a marker for the rest of the season.

The Foxes have assembled a fantastic young squad with the likes of James Maddison, Ben Chilwell, Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyoncu, Wilfried Ndidi and others. They’ve also got Brendan Rodgers as a manager with a fantastic board and they’ll need to get rid of a few players to continue their development.

One player who is likely to leave, according to a report in the Telegraph, is Algerian international Islam Slimani.

Slimani is a useful player and Leicester spent a lot of money a few seasons ago to get him but he doesn’t fit the identity of this squad.

Islam Slimani

Slimani is not getting any younger at 31 with one year left on his contract. Hence, it is best that Leicester get some money back from his sale.

Slimani is big centre-forward, who plays as a target man and Leicester City are mostly a possession-based side now under Brendan Rodgers and hardly ever play it long, which is what he thrives on.

He lacks the mobility to press, which is another requirement for a team under Rodgers and it’s best for him to leave Leicester. In 46 appearances for Leicester so far, he has scored 13 goals and registered 7 assists with many of them coming off the bench.

He joined Leicester off the back of a fantastic campaign with Sporting Lisbon, where he scored 27 goals in 33 games and it’s a shame that the move to the King Power never worked out for him.

He spent the last season on loan at Fenerbahce and it’s best that he finds new pastures to continue playing football as he heads into the twilight of his career.

Leicester will be kicking themselves after drawing to Wolves and Chelsea but they must take some encouragement from the manner of their performances. However, it is high time for them to offload Slimani.
