Serie A club Chievo activated their option to buy centre-forward Mariusz Stepinski from Nantes on a permanent basis last summer. He spent the 2017/18 campaign in Serie A on loan and scored five goals in 22 appearances, which was enough for Chievo to sign him permanently.
Time is running out for Chievo as they currently find themselves rock bottom of the Serie A table, 12 points adrift of safety. Amidst the club’s struggles in the Serie A, Mariusz Stepinski hasn’t blown cold. He has netted six goals in 23 league games till date that saw him attract interest from Parma in the January transfer window.
But Chievo, as predicted, didn’t sell the Polish striker to derail their promotion hopes. Come summer, however, there will be every chance of Stepinski leaving if the club fails to maintain its top-flight status.
That being said, Leicester City should attempt to lure away Mariusz Stepinski from Chievo in the summer.
Leicester City have had a very inconsistent 2018/19 campaign and are currently 12th on the table. Given the overall quality of the squad they have, Claude Puel should be at least challenging for a top-eight finish. But come summer, Puel should target a striker to compete with old dog Jamie Vardy.
Vardy has not had the best of seasons in the Premier League, managing just eight strikes in 22 league fixtures. But with the Englishman soon to enter the twilight of his career, Puel will need to start planning for the future. Not only will the Foxes need someone to compete with Vardy but also replace him in the long run.
Mariusz Stepinski would fit the bill at Leicester perfectly. He has got the raw ability and attributes to go and wreak havoc to the opposition defenders. The Pole can hold the ball up well and can make well-timed runs behind the opposition defence.
The 23-year-old is also a very accomplished finisher in front of goal and is a real threat in the attacking end of the pitch. Stepinski has few weaknesses that he needs to work upon; otherwise, he is a fantastic player and can be a real asset if Leicester manages to sign him.
The addition of a player of Stepinski’s quality will undoubtedly bolster Puel’s attacking options at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy hasn’t been at his sublime best this season, while Kelechi Iheanacho hasn’t scored since September 2018. Hence, Puel should do everything possible to get a deal over the line for Stepinski.
