According to Leicester Mercury, Barcelona have started tracking Ricardo Pereira with the Catalan giants eyeing a move. The report further adds that the Portuguese star joins Thomas Meunier and Joao Cancelo on Barcelona’s shortlist if their first-team star Nelson Semedo does choose to leave.
That is despite the fact that the 25-year-old only arrived from FC Porto last summer for a fee of around €25million. But since then, Ricardo Pereira has been absolutely perfect for Leicester City, doing an outstanding job in his debut season.
Not only did he miss just three games in the Premier League alone but Pereira added two goals and created 7 more in the English top-tier. He’s been arguably one of the best right-backs in the Premier League this season, alongside Trent Alexander Arnold.
However, it also means that losing him now would be a massive blow to Leicester City. Ricardo Pereira’s loss would net them a pretty fee but replacing him will be a very tough job.
That is if the club ever even considers a move for the 25-year-old. The Foxes are forming an identity under Brendan Rodgers, one that is in its infancy. The former Celtic boss arrived midway through the season and has adapted brilliantly to the Premier League once again.
Not only that, the mere change in tactics from the manager seemed to invigorate the club. They would go on to beat not just Arsenal and Bournemouth but also put up an incredible fight against Manchester City that saw them get beaten by a stunning goal.
Things are changing at the King Power Stadium and with a little more time, Rodgers has the potential to change their fortunes.
That means that they cannot afford to lose someone as important as Ricardo Pereira right now, with Leicester City’s project still growing. With time, the Foxes have the potential to become a genuine contender for the Premier League’s top-six, maybe even a top-four spot.
