Leicester City 2-5 Arsenal: Sanchez Scores a Hat-Trick and Other Talking Points

It almost felt like a throwback to the old Premier League games which featured Arsenal, not the boring 1-0 Arsenal wins but a lot of attacking football and goals flying in from everywhere. Leicester City hosted Arsenal and it was the Gunners who claimed a 5-2 victory at the King Power stadium.

It was Jamie Vardy who opened the scoring for Leicester but Arsenal hit back with Theo Walcott and then Alexis Sanchez scoring a hat-trick, Vardy reduced the scoreline by making it 4-2 in the second half but Olivier Giroud scored the fifth for Arsenal as they recorded a resounding victory, giving Leicester their first defeat of the season.

With Sanchez getting back to scoring form, we look at the five talking points from the game.

Attack, attack, attack!

It isn’t a rarity but this was one of those games where both teams were relentless in attack. Purists might not have enjoyed the game all that well with the idea of defending thrown out faster than you can count to ten. This was pure entertainment and certainly, neutrals might have enjoyed the game more than the Leicester City fans.

Alexis Sanchez is back

Sanchez was magnificent for Arsenal, he was back to his best after not starting the season in the best of form. Sanchez had a long season last time around with the Copa America and leading Chile to victory might have taken its toll on the attacker but this game showed that he is slowly getting back to his best and other teams should be wary of the Chilean taking on defences and scoring for fun.

Can Leicester continue their run?

Coming into this game, Leicester were the only unbeaten team in the Premier League, well that stat was completely destroyed by Arsenal and although the club are still in the top half of the league, they need to ensure they stay in the Premier League. Last season should not be forgotten and it was only that incredible run at the end of the campaign that saved them. Claudio Ranieri is a manager with a lot of experience and will be wary of not getting carried away. Leicester have had a great start but need to build on it.

Arsenal for the title?

This might be a little farfetched but with most of the sides still not playing to their potential, Arsenal, like many teams could be in for a serious shot at the title. It seemed that Manchester City were running away with the title but back to back defeats has put the champagne back on the ice. United might be leading the race now but if Arsenal keeps playing like they did against Leicester, they could be in the race for the Premier League crown.

Walcott should get more starts than Giroud

Arsenal might have finally found a solution to their striker problems. Theo Walcott started the game ahead of Olivier Giroud and he was fantastic, his pace and running provided Arsenal with a great outlet and he was a problem for the Leicester defence throughout. Olivier Giroud might not remain as the first choice striker if Walcott continues playing like this and hopefully Wenger will give the English attacker more chances up top.
