According to a report from BBC, Leeds United are targeting Wolves forward Helder Costa.
The Portuguese, 25, was a big success at Wolves after an impressive loan spell from Benfica. The Wanderers paid Benfica a club record fee of £13m to turn a loan move into a permanent deal in January 2017.
Helder Costa played an important role in the club’s promotion last year but his importance to Nuno Espirito Santo’s team has diminished in the Premier League. He struggled in the Premier League last season, scoring only one goal and making only 16 starts.
As things stand, the 25-year-old is behind the likes of Raul Jimenez, Diogo Jota and Ivan Cavaleiro in the pecking order and his career could get stalled further if he plans to stay. That being said, a move to Leeds United would be ideal for Costa to reignite his career.
Despite being in the Championship’s top-two for much of the season, Leeds eventually missed out on automatic promotion back to the Premier League and were then shocked by Derby County in the playoff semi-final. The Whites have managed to keep hold of Marcelo Bielsa and will look to back him as much as they can in the transfer market.
If the Yorkshire giants are to earn promotion to the top-flight in 2019/20 though, transfers are needed and so far not a single player has walked in from the front door of the club.
Bielsa must recruit smartly this summer as he is likely to have a limited budget to operate with. There are some areas the Leeds boss must address but signing a forward has to be at the top of his wishlist.
Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford require competition, while Pablo Hernandez is gradually edging towards the end of his career. A player like Helder Costa would be a fantastic fit at Elland Road, given his Championship experience.
Costa is a proven and prolific forward in the Championship, scoring 17 goals, with 16 assists, during Wolves’ title-winning season in 2017/2018. He is speedy, agile and industrious with the ability to create and score goals in equal measure.

The Portuguese international ticks all the boxes and while he may have fallen out of favour at Wolves, he has all the qualities of doing serious damage in a Leeds shirt. Plus, the chance to work under the highly-respected Bielsa could be too tough to turn down for Costa.
Costa’s capture would represent a significant coup by Leeds and should give Bielsa’s team the push they need to achieve promotion to the top-flight next term.
