According to a report in Nottingham Post, Yohan Benalouane is attracting from other English clubs and he is expected to be leaving Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The 31-year-old joined the Tricky Trees in January for an undisclosed fee and he became Martin O’Neill’s first signing, but he still could be on his way out of City Ground.
As per the report, Cardiff City and Leeds United are interested in the centre-back, who was part of the Leicester’s title-winning season in 2015/16.
Here’s why the Championship hopefuls must beat the Premier League relegation fighters in signature of Benalouane in the summer transfer window:
Currently third in the table and slowly losing their way out of the top-two chase, Leeds United should recuperate quick if they are to play Premier League football next season.
While that’s for the present, the improvement in squad for the upcoming campaign must be in the Whites’ state of mind as well. That being said, they have been short on senior centre-back options.
Whenever Liam Cooper or Pontus Jansson has missed some games, the squad struggled to replace them with equal quality.
As a result, we saw Marcelo Bielsa playing midfielder Kalvin Phillips at centre-back to cover up for the loss of either first-choice assets, clearly showing why Leeds must contemplate on signing a new, experienced centre-back in the summer.
All that being said, Yohan Benalouane could be a good addition to the Whites squad. He is experienced, physically strong and can play the system preferred by the manager.
It is a cliche that Leeds United require more cover quality cover at the back to enhance their consistency in their performance level. For that to happen, signing Benalouane won’t be a bad option.
