Leeds going all out for this 7-goal star could turn out to be crucial in promotion push

Why Leeds United must go all out to sign Jonson Clarke-Harris in January

Back in April, The Bristol Post had reported Leeds United were among the clubs keeping a close eye on Bristol Rovers striker Jonson Clarke-Harris in the game between Bristol Rovers and Coventry City.

Jonson Clarke-Harris, 25, joined Bristol Rovers from Coventry City in January 2019. In 16 games for Bristol Rovers last season, he managed 11 goals. The 25-year-old has hit the ground running in the new League One campaign with 7 goals in 10 games already to his name.

With Clarke-Harris impressing in the League One, Leeds United must definitely renew their interest in the centre-forward during the January transfer window.

Leeds currently sit on top of the Championship following their 2-0 win vs Huddersfield Town earlier in the day. Their 4-0 win over Middlesbrough before this game dusted off their attacking deficiency.

A large part of Marcelo Bielsa’s success this term has been due to the strength of their defensive unit, as Leeds have conceded the fewest goals and kept the highest clean sheets in the division this season.

They have also been impressive going forward, with Patrick Bamford springing into form of late. But beyond Bamford, Bielsa only has Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah as an option.

Nketiah was brought in on loan from Arsenal in the summer to cover for the departure of Kemar Roofe and challenge Patrick Bamford for a role up top.

However, after more than three months into the season, the young striker is yet to start a single league fixture for the West Yorkshire giants. Thus, with very limited options up front, the Leeds boss should reinforce that area with the signing of Clarke-Harris.

Despite being 25, Clarke-Harris has already had a storied career, playing for nine different clubs and suffering a serious ACL injury in 2016. But he has recovered from the ACL injury and is now banging goals left, right and centre in Football League One.

Truly, securing the services of the Leicester-born striker in January could definitely hand a massive boost to Leeds’ overall squad depth. Goals often prove to be the ultimate difference in the promotion race and Clarke-Harris certainly looks capable of improving the Whites’ attack.

Verdict

With that in mind, Leeds must go all out to sign Clarke-Harris in the New Year as he would be capable of making a massive difference in their pursuit for promotion.
