Koscielny vs Vardy And Other Key Battles That Will Decide The Game When Arsenal Host Leicester City

Share

In a battle that could decide the fate of the Premier League title, first placed Leicester City take on third placed Arsenal. Leicester confirmed their stake for the title with an impressive 3-1 win away from home against Manchester City and a similar performance at the Emirates would certainly ensure that the Foxes have one hand on the title.

Leicester are five points ahead of Arsenal and will be looking for some revenge. Arsenal are one of the few teams that actually beat Leicester and it was a resounding victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season for the Gunners.

Alexis Sanchez scored a hat-trick in that game and with the Gunners needing to close down the gap, a victory at home is the least that they would be looking at. With such an important game coming on Sunday, we provide the three key battles from the game.

Hector Bellerin vs. Riyad Mahrez

This is pace taking on trickery, Riyad Mahrez now is in double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League this season and scored one of the goals of the weekend when he lashed in the second one in the victory over Manchester City. The 24-year-old Algerian though will not have as easy a time this weekend.

Hector Bellerin would have to be at his wits end to keep this wily fox in his back pocket but the Spaniard does have a lot of pace to counter that of Mahrez’s. If he can shut out this avenue for Leicester’s attacks, Arsenal do have a great chance of winning the game.

Laurent Koscielny vs. Jamie Vardy

While Leicester would be pinning hopes on Mahrez to do a lot of damage they do have a player who is a willing runner and is leading the goal scoring charts in the Premier League. Jamie Vardy might not have scored in the win over Manchester City but his pace and movement caused a lot of problems to the defence.

Arsenal already have a problem with the lack of pace from Per Mertesacker and they might bring in Paulista to partner Koscielny. The French defender might be one of the best in the league but even with Paulista by his side, keeping Vardy quiet will be a tough task for someone who is one of the best defenders in the league.

Olivier Giroud vs. Robert Huth

The French striker goes up against one of the toughest defenders in the league. Giroud might not have found the back of the net in recent weeks but he could be the man who gives Arsenal the lead in this titanic battle.

Robert Huth might be an ex-Chelsea player and has won a couple of Premier League titles with the Blues but the way he has performed for Leicester, he could very well be chalking up another title if he can help his team keep a clean-sheet.
