Tottenham Player Ratings vs Everton

Harry Kane came out on top in the battle of the top scorers over Romelu Lukaku, as he bagged a brace to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a 3-2 win against Everton at the White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

After a not so explosive start, Tottenham took the lead in a scintillating fashion through Kane, when he fired home a thunderous effort from 30-yards out that beat Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles all ends up. The Englishman almost got a second soon after but was denied by Joel from point-blank range. Christian Eriksen and Victor Wanyama came close, but could not add to the scoreline before half-time.

Soon after the restart, defender Jan Vertonghen forced a save from Joel, but 56 minutes in, Dele Alli capitalized on some sloppy work by midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, teeing up Kane who made no mistake, doubling Tottenham’s lead with a low finish. Everton rung in the changes to get some foothold in the game, but could not test Hugo Lloris.

However, with 9 minutes left on the clock, there was some hope after, striker Romelu Lukaku managed to pull one back, following some good work by substitute Kevin Mirallas. Joel made a brave stop to deny Kane his hat-trick, but Alli made it three in the second minute of the injury time, to put the result to bed. There was more action to be unfolded though, as substitute Enner Valencia latched onto a Ross Barkley free-kick to sweep home from six yards out, but Spurs were not to be denied.

The win saw Tottenham close the gap to leaders Chelsea to seven points, with the West Londoners to play rivals West Ham United on Monday night and Mauricio Pochettino’s men also hold a four-point lead over the chasing pack of Manchester City and Liverpool. In what was their club-record ninth straight Premier League win, let’s see which Tottenham player stood out the most:

Tottenham Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 6/10

Apart from Lukaku’s goal, Lloris had absolutely no challenges thrown at him throughout the game. The Frenchman wouldn’t have had many quieter outings than this game.

Eric Dier – 7/10

Held his position well and defended strongly for the length of the game. Did not give an inch to Everton and used the ball very well when in possession.

Toby Alderweireld – 7/10

Another solid performance at the back from the Belgian. Managed to mark Lukaku out of the game for almost the entirety of the game.

Jan Vertonghen – 7/10

An enterprising performance from Vertonghen made several impressive tackles and blocks. Got forward well and almost scored for Tottenham. However, a slip-up lead to Lukaku’s goal.

Kyle Walker – 7/10

The Englishman was strong defensively, but much more impressive going forward. Caused plenty of problems for the Everton defence with his forward forays and accurate crosses and as a result kept Leighton Baines pinned in his own half.

Victor Wanyama – 7/10

Will be disappointed to see his effort bounce off the post early in the game. Patrolled the midfield area diligently, breaking up play and starting attacks from deep positions.

Mousa Dembele – 6/10

A robust performance from the Belgian midfielder, but gave away possession on way too many occasions than he would have liked on the day.

Ben Davies – 7.5/10

Was probably his best display for Tottenham this season. Kept Seamus Coleman occupied for the entire duration of the game, completely negating the Irishman’s effectiveness going forward. Defended resolutely as well.

Christian Eriksen – 7/10

Missed a few good opportunities in the first-half, but was always involved in almost everything positive Tottenham conjured up. The Everton defence found it hard to deal with his deliveries and movement.

Dele Alli – 7/10

Struggled to get on the ball as he drifted in and out of the game, but made the most of the error by Schneiderlin and Williams to set Kane up for the second. He then killed the game off with a fine goal.

Harry Kane – 9/10

Another amazing performance from the talismanic striker. Opened the scoring with a brilliantly hit long-range effort, before adding one more to his tally in the second period, to make it 19 goals for the season.

Substitutes

Harry Winks – 7/10

Replaced Dembele in the 78th minute and was an influential figure after coming on. His smart free-kick resulted in the third Tottenham goal.

Moussa Sissoko – N/A

Was introduced in the dying minutes for Eriksen. No time to make any impact.

Vincent Janssen – N/A

Came on for Kane in the last few minutes, won the free-kick that led to Alli’s goal.
