Whilst no doubt disappointed by the performance of his players in the Scottish Cup semi-final against rivals Celtic last weekend, manager Pedro Caixinha knows his side is very much a work in progress and will look for a response from them against the same opposition at Ibrox this week.
Rangers have gone from an aging team to a very young one in a matter of months, though every single game that goes by provides their players with more and more valuable experience. Their cup exit to Celtic will have hurt them, though numerous factors point to a better showing this time.
Home advantage, the points that individual players will have learned from last week and the natural need to show the performance last time was not at their usual level will all serve to motivate the Rangers. A similar 4-3-3 to last time may be on the cards this time as well.
It remains to be seen whether or not Caixinha fancies him on the long-term, but for now, he is Rangers’ most reliable option in goal.
He was to blame for conceding a penalty last week but will be given the nod at right-back again.
Will have a tough time against Dembele but will be hoping for a quieter afternoon on home soil.
Has been around the block a few more times than his partner and will look to keep things calm at the back.
The young Maltese has plenty of scope for improvement but is doing OK at left-back. Should start this game.
The young loanee tends to run out of steam during games, but shows definite talent and has an eye for goal too. He should start in the midfield once again.
Rangers’ linchpin in the middle – he will have a job to look after Stuart Armstrong and stop his bursts from midfield into the Rangers’ box, in order to protect Bates.
Now back in the side, Halliday desperately needs to impress and will have no better stage than the Ibrox pitch against the old enemy.
Popular with the fans and definitely capable of goals, Garner will have to challenge Waghorn for this position but may just get the nod.
It’s high time he was given a chance in a big game and fights off competition from Barrie McKay and Martyn Waghorn for this place.
Still going strong at 37-years-old, Miller probably represents Rangers’ best chance of scoring. The former Hibs and Celtic man put his side ahead the last time the sides met at Ibrox and a repeat of that would go down as a treat.
