Juventus Kept A Cechmate On Chelsea

Share

Reigning champions Chelsea traveled to Turnin in the hopes to stay top of Champions league group E, but it all went horribly wrong for Chelsea and their manager Di Matteo as Juventus ran riot over them in 3-0 victory.

It has to be said that Juventus deserved their victory, the Italian giants completely outplayed Chelsea. Juventus went into the match with a not so good record against the English teams and have not secured a win over Chelsea. However the Bianconeri managed to get all three points and moved ahead of Chelsea to second place behind an impressive Shakhtar Donetsk who are on top with a win over FC Nordsjalland.

Champions league Group E – Standings

Fabio Quagliarella put the Bianconeri ahead just around the half time break. It was 1-0 at half time and the second half promised to be good one. Arturo Vidal made it two in the second half making it impossible for the Blues, before Sebastian Giovinco placed the final nail in the coffin with a goal in the dying moments of the game.

The blues have to thank their keeper Cech who made a point blank save from three yards of a volley from Stephan Lichtsteiner. And in the second half Juventus were denied a potential penalty after Gary Cahill appeared to tug the problematic Vucinic to the ground. The scoreline looks a lot decent than it could have been. Chelsea and their manger have to blame it on themselves for playing such a poor match.

Roberto Di Matteo’s decision to leave out Torres from the starting line-up could have been a blessing in disguise for Juventus as the Blues did not have much of an attacking threat up front. It was Oscar, who carried Chelsea’s threat as he glided past several Juve defenders and released Eden Hazard, who seemed certain to score until Gianluigi Buffon’s trailing leg diverted his low shot just wide. It was not until the 35th minute that Chelsea mustered another clear-cut chance, Brazilian Oscar again threatening but seeing his shot cut off by Leandro Bonucci’s well-timed tackle.

Di Matteo had no other option than to leave out the Spaniard who has been poor this season, in an interview after the match the Blues manager said:

“I’m responsible for the result. I’m responsible for the performance. It’s a negative evening for us. If anyone has to take the blame, it’s me. I selected a team I was convinced was the right team to win against Juventus, or get at least a draw, so the blame belongs to me.”

Here are the highlights from the game:
