Julio Cesar Close To Arsenal Move? – Report

According to various reports, Brazil and QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar will be the first big name signing for Arsenal in Summer. Julio Cesar already hinted that he is negotiating personal terms with an English side and would surely leave QPR. Even the betting on his transfer is suspended now, which has sparked further rumors.

And then, there is a relegation clause in his contract which will enable Arsenal to get him for a cheaper price. (A perfect Arsene signing may be?)

Julio Cesar close to Arsenal move

Cesar is still Brazil’s first choice keeper as the nation prepares to host the 2014 World Cup. He joined QPR from Inter on a free transfer and played more than 24 games for the London club. But during the later stages of the season, he was dropped from starting eleven as it became apparent that Brazilian would leave the relegated side. So more than a signing, it would provide Arsenal’s Szczesny with the much needed competition for the first place which Fabianski has rarely provided.

It is expected that Arsenal will officially announce the transfer in next two weeks.

Although this has been running around for quite sometime now, Arsenal fans should be optimistic about the move as it makes much more sense for both the parties. At 33, Cesar would not be worried about starting week-in, week-out as it much better to play for Arsenal than in the second tier league. For Arsenal, it shows real intention as it leaves Szczesny with a constant fear of losing his starting berth and the Polish shot stopper may finally concentrate more on his job than being complacent.

The likes of Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic who are linked with Arsenal seems unlikely as both are in their mid twenties and may demand regular gametime plus, which will almost end Szczesny’s career at the Emirates, one which Arsene Wenger will never allow. Plus their transfer value is much greater than what it would take for signing the QPR man.
